Lockpicks

It's been a long time since I played Yserbius back on the original INN, now starting over on Inn revival I find I've forgotten a few things; Lockpicks being a big part.

A simply put newbie question: How do you use Green Lockpicks?

I realize that the Thief guild gets a Lockpicking skill that does not require a Lockpick to function. However playing as a Knight and adventuring with a Cleric, I find myself unable to open many doors.

Right-Clicking on the lockpick in question returns: "Using this item has no effect" on a multitude of locked doors, not just any one in particular.

The Walk-through here lead me to believe that Lockpicks could be used independently of the Thief's Lockpicking skill. Is this true? If so how is it done?

Edit: S33K3R explained the lockpick system to me ingame wile we where in a party,

Green Lockpicks only work on Green doors, and you need another color of Lockpick for each door type. That explains why the Green lockpick wasn't working on the Soliders Quarter's and The Mines's Doors.

Thank you very much.

Ummm.. not exactly

Green lockpicks are the weakest of the bunch, blue is the most handy. There are no colors on doors so therefore the explanation you got was a bit wrong. There are some doors that require higher level lockpicks. Each time you get a higher level lockpick, you can toss or sell the one previously - the new one will open everything the previous one did along with more.

The lockpicks increase in strength and cash value following the rainbow color wheel - starting at green and ending at blue. Thus... green is least, followed by yellow, orange, red, purple, then blue.

Once you have lockpick skill maximized then you do not need a lockpick again. However, lockpick skill with only two points applied to it isn't going to be any better than the green lockpick itself.

Hope that clears things up for you - if you see me online, feel free to ask me anything you need clarification of. :)

Thank you. That's a big help. Since you've said that I've found some doors in the Prison that the Green Lockpick opens, so I know I'm not crazy and they actually work. Load off my mind.
