yes it will run under XP you just need to START > run >type cmd and a dos window will run open navigate using old dos commands to the directory where you installed yserbius and type the command line to start the program.

Still having problems post back here again and we will see what we can do to better explain it.. Slo

Also, there's alot of trouble shooting steps already posted on the forums, and even some details instructions for getting it running in XP, even with sound.... Do a search for XP or Windows and you should find some help.

Ironically enough I didn't have to mess with the shortcut at all to get it working, just had to set it to fullscreen since I hate windowed games. Wish I could get Master of Magic working. ;/

Well I haven't downloaded it yet. I was just curious if it would work easily. Ive had a bunch of older games that I have tried to play on this new machine that simply didn't work. Glad to hear people aren't having terrible issues with it.

As Provided by Xenther
If you've tried to run Yserbius or Twinion without using the original install then you've quickly recognized that something is missing. The sound To solve this problem the first step is to create the configuration file that Yserbius and Twinion look for when starting to set up their sound. This file is called 'LSCI.CFG' and must be placed in the parent directory of your Yserbius and Twinion installations. I like to keep all my applications organized in Program Files, and have Yserbius and Twinion set up like so:
C:\Program Files\INN\Yserbius
Shadow of Yserbius
C:\Program Files\INN\Twinion
Fates of Twinion
C:\Program Files\INN
Parent Directory, LSCI.CFG goes here

All LSCI.CFG needs is this line: music = SNDBLAST.DRV 220
The syntax of this line is described below. You can create this file using Notepad if you like, just make sure you save it with a .CFG extension. edited* hyperlink removed , just right click and 'Save Target As...'.
music =
SNDBLAST.DRV
220

Try ADL.DRV if the Sound Blaster driver doesn't work.
This is the default base port of most SoundBlasters, if yours is configured differently, change it accordingly. Windows NT and XP users shouldn't have to change this.

If you are running Yserbius or Twinion on an Operating System earlier than Windows NT then this should have you up and running. If, however, you have Windows NT or XP then you'll need to do a little more work.

Windows NT/XP

Windows XP's support of DOS applications is mediocre at best. If you want to get sound working on XP then there are two options. The first is to use a DOS emulator like DOSBOX. The only drawback to this is that they tend to require some serious CPU horsepower. A couple gigahertz will probably let your run Yserbius and Twinion somewhere in the range of 10-30mhz with sound emulation. This is fast enough to run Yserbius and Twinion effectively, though emulation might be a bit choppy at times. The second option is to use an application like VDMSound.
According to VDMSound's documentation is it, "Unlike all the Win9x SoundBlaster ISA ‘legacy’ drivers available from a variety of PCI soundcard manufacturers, VDMSound is not a mere ‘wrapper’ or ‘bridge’ to existing audio hardware. It is a self-contained, 100% software emulation program that is completely independent of your audio hardware type and settings."
Once you have downloaded VDMSound you can proceed to install it. The installation is relatively straightforward and you shouldn't have to change any of the default installation settings.

With VDMSound's Shell Integration getting sound working is easy. Right click on YSERBIUS.EXE or TWINION.EXE and go to 'Run With VDMS'. When the VDMSound window pops up you can proceed with the 'Default Configuration'. Have 'Remember My Settings' checked and click 'Finish'. Yserbius or Twinion will open and hopefully the sound will be playing.
Even if the sound is working there are a few settings you may wish to tweak.

Right click on the VDMSound shortcut that was created, it will have the same name as whatever executable you ran. Click on Properties and on the VDMSound tab click the Advanced button.

On the 'Program' tab you may want to check the 'Close DOS window on exit' checkbox, and uncheck the 'Warn before closing the DOS window' checkbox.
Also, if you have any favorite icons for Yserbius or Twinion you can change that here as well.

The last tweak you might want to make is under the 'Performance' tab. Checking the 'Cap DOS timer frequency' checkbox will help improve the sound of Yserbius and Twinions PC Speaker cues, which tend to sound rushed otherwise.
For easier access you can 'drag and drop' or 'copy and paste' this shortcut into your Start Menu.
For any other questions about getting VDMSound to work consult the documentation and their website.

You actually don't need any Dos Emulator, the XP Dos Prompt works suffeciently. BTW, The Help Hall is a valueable place for install and running questions. Ya should scope it out if ya do have problems.

Y'know, that's a good question. I may have to load up Virtual PC and try it, but for some reason I don't think there are any sound drivers for the virtual sound card *looks around for his copy of Virtual PC*

Just wanted to let everyone in on this little tidbit if there's anyone out there trying to play this on a Mac through Boxer, since I had considerable trouble finding just what had to be done to get Yserbius to work with sound and music. Firstly, Boxer has MT-32 support built in. Just look in the program's preferences and under the Audio tab. As indicated by Boxer, you'll need to find the two ROMs that will complete the MT-32 emulation. Once you have found those (and they are fairly easy to find), just drop them onto the open audio preferences. The only other thing you'll have to do is described above by slohand. Using a text editor that allows you to save files with filetypes other than the oft-required .txt or .rtf (such as Sublime Text 2, rather than TextEdit or Pages etc.), create a file called LSCI.CFG and add the line "music = SNDBLAST.DRV 220" to the body of the document (no quotes). Save it wherever. Then, find your Boxer copy of Yserbius. Right click it to "show package contents." Paste the LSCI.CFG file into the "C.harddisk" folder. Lastly, open up Boxer, open up Yserbius and enjoy it in all its glory!
