Make sure you have the latest version of Java downloaded, also ,, are you guys talkign about when you have the tavern minimized to taskbar and come back to it and it is all white? That happens to me sometimes and if you just leave it up a second or two it will refresh. I am not sure what you mean, please try to be a bit more descriptive. I left Slohand sitting in the tavern for 5 days straight and never crashed not once. and trust me the pc he was on was not the best at all. so I am confused abou tthese freezing and disconnect problems and am trying to gather information about systems so please if you have problems post here with this information

Operating System.
Ram
CPU Speed
Java Version
Internet connection Type(Dialup, Cable, DSL)
Type of Router(if you have one)
Firewall Enabled or Disabled
Virus Software type
Wireless or hardwired (CAT5 cable or CAT6 cable )

Using Yserbius.exe or Yserbius.jar file

Problems encountered

Thanks all this will allow us to create a log of errors and see if we can figure out some of these probs

Edit from Tiger: Making this a sticky. If you guys have ANY YS Online problems, please fill out the requested information from above and post it here. Thanks.

Operating System:Win XP Home Edition Ver 5.1
Ram:504 MB
CPU Speed:pent 4 3.00 GHz
Java Version:1.5 0_06
Internet connection Type(Dialup, Cable, DSL):Cable
Type of Router(if you have one):Linksys model BEFSR41
Firewall Enabled or Disabled:I've tried both ways.. usually it's running
Virus Software type: Norton Internet Security and I assume the normal windows XP stuff is running along with it in the background.
Wireless or hardwired (CAT5 cable or CAT6 cable ): hardwired, no idea which CAT it is...It's Charter if that helps.

Using Yserbius.exe or Yserbius.jar file: Yserbius.jar file with a ys.bat file to start it

Problems encountered: I load the tav and everything is fine.. if I leave it up and running for awhile without use (doesn't matter if it's minimized or not, both ways it appears to happen). The program appears fine and I wouldn't know otherwize expect on occation.. I've exited and re-entered to find that I've missed chatting and or people entering/leaving the tavern. Most times when I've sat in the tav there has only been one other person in there... so I assume they're are afk and leave the program open on my desktop for awhile.. I come back to check on the screen.. still the only one person in there... I exit and re-enter to check to see if I've 'frozen' and sure enough.. there are two or three people in there and they are chatting.. where as before I re-entered I couldn't see them or the text.

I hope this helps!

To check if I'm still connected I just type :/ (or anything). Just in case ya's are wondering why I keep typing that :)
If I'm dis-connected... after hitting enter to post my message, it'll give me a not connected message and kick me into the gallery.

Slo, I'll post more detailed info when I get home.

Not sure if this is it, or its my hatred for Norton (I used to do tech support for Dial up, and Norton was our antichrist)... It may be blocking continuous connections...
Thanks, I'm not sure if that is it or not either.. I'm pretty sure it's done it without Norton running too...I'm in the tavern now testing it without Norton to make sure.

It's time to renew Norton anyway.. which one do you suggest? I might as well get one that doesn't screw with everything else I'm using.

Thanks!

Just so you know, Norton has a bad habit of running even if you tell it to shut down. Thats what caused us, in the ISP biz, so much trouble... It's just my personal oppinion too... And I know, that running Lan games or even getting the Lan to be recognized with Norton Internet Securty running, is next to impossible... As I've learned on two occasions... Hehehe... At anyrate, I go with AntiVir at http://www.free-av.com/ ...As for a firewall? If your behind a router/firewall then I wouldn't even bother... Again, my personal prefrence... Or if you feel you have to have a personal Firewall, stay away from Norton or BlackIce, as they both tend to lock your computer connection up tighter then a Duck's a-Anyway... You get the point...

Yeah, turning Norton off didn't make any difference.

I'll take Tiger's advice and go with something else. Once I uninstall Norton.. I'll let you guys know if the problem continues.

Thanks :D

Navic,

Mozzella shouldn't matter in this case, since the Applett is windowed... However, I'd lean towards the wireless end being the problem as I have the same problem and can only think it's because the wireless connection sucks....

Do you notice any lapse in internet connectivity in general, like when downloading a large file or surfing?

Sun,

Good call...

Hmmm... Sun, can you pin it down to an exact time frame? Is it consistent? Is it random? Is it 5 mins in, then boot?

Two things also, Sun...

1. This is still a primitive interface... Very basic.... And unfortunatlly we don't yet have a way to track connection/dis-connections... That'll come in the future...

2. I notice you have Cable... If your sure its cable, then don't worry about the following: If your not sure, and it could be DSL, keep in mind that DSL is on a type of signal connection.. Meaning it sends a signal ever so often, to see if the connection between the switch and your house is still good, which can cause some connections to drop...

Side note: If your cable shows Cloning (Multiple images on the same channel) or fuzziness, these are signs that the signal is not very strong. Which COULD lead to letancy issues with the cable modem connection... (Since the cable modem shares the connection with your TV, if the TV is suffering in some way, the internet may too.)

*nod* Yeah, I know it's very basic right now. I'm not at all complaining about the issues I'm having.. I was just letting you guys know because Slo asked us to be more detailed from past posts. Sorta like a beta process with bug reporting. :)

Yes.. I'm very sure it's cable and not DSL. I have no problems with my cable. No fuzzies. No cloning. No dropped connections from other sites usually.. and very little down time for the most part.

Now, to answer your question from before.. it's only when the tavern isn't active it seems. If I'm talking or others are talking.. It appears to stay active with no problems.

PS. If you want.. you can call me Sunny, everyone does :) I keep thinking you're talking to someone else. I actually scrolled up when I read your first post to me looking for Sundred. *blonde* :p
